Every path to a sustainable planet leads us to the ocean. Our best hope for saving the planet lies on the seafloor.
Land-based alternative energy solutions like solar and geothermal power help slow our greenhouse gas emissions, but on their own, they are insufficient for preventing the worst consequences of climate change. Though offshore wind currently accounts for less than 1% of global energy production, it has the potential to provide 18 times today’s global electricity demand. What’s holding us back is a map showing us the way. We must now chart the seafloor to accelerate offshore wind production and tap this endless resource.
