The Lion Electric Company (NYSE: LEV) has received an order for 35 LionC school buses from the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. The vehicles will join 12 LionC buses that have been serving routes in the Charlottetown area since early 2021. Lion will also provide 35 Level 2 charging stations.

The purchase was partially funded by the federal and provincial governments, which are contributing over $6.3 million to the clean school bus project through the Green Infrastructure plan.

Prince Edward Island’s 47 electric school buses are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1,000 tons per year. The province plans to eventually electrify its entire fleet of 332 school buses, as well as all its transit buses.

Lion has delivered over 390 heavy-duty EVs in North America, and they have driven over 11 million kilometers since 2016. All of Lion’s vehicles are purpose-built for electric propulsion, and are manufactured in its North American facility, which has the capacity to produce up to 2,500 vehicles per year.
