Hyundai Launches High-Quality Kona Electric YouTube Campaign …
… that subtly dissolves the #1 concern non-EV drivers have about electric cars.
Hyundai has launched a new YouTube series called “Hyundai Highways.” Rather than try to get you to buy a Hyundai Kona Electric by focusing on the things electric vehicles are widely known to be good for, and rather than trying to debunk myths and concerns in a quick, flashy, in-your-face video, Hyundai Highways subtly, slowly, and I think very effectively works to remove the top concern those who don’t read CleanTechnica every day have about electric cars. It shows that you can drive the Kona EV far and wide with ease, with a relaxed and fun-loving attitude.
Almost as soon as you buy an electric car (or even just borrow one for a short time), you learn that the two questions people almost invariably ask are “How far can you drive it?” and “How long does it take to charge?” If you watch this first episode below, you can see that they don’t even mention the answers to those questions in the videos. What they do instead is they take you on a trip to national parks, implicitly showing you that range is not a concern.

They do briefly mention the availability of charging stations at some spots, highlighting that they are also prime parking spaces. Other than that, there’s seldom even mention that the Kona Electric is … electric!
Furthermore, they make the episode more like a National Geographic episode than a car commercial, making it very enjoyable and interesting to watch, far more so than any typical car ad. It’s a beautiful video with a lot of beautiful shots of Zion National Park. And occasionally those beautiful shots include the Kona Electric. Very appealing. …
In information provided about the series, Hyundai mentions that each video is done on just one charge of the 258-mile Kona Electric.
Hyundai Highways is a 5-part series. The full series covers Big Sur, Death Valley, Zion, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Sequoia National Parks.
