Tesla Autopilot Display Will Soon Show Other Teslas By Model & Color

This may not seem like a big deal to some people, but many Tesla owners have been eager to see this improvement to Tesla’s Autopilot display for a while, and some have been begging for it on Twitter without any response from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

In case it’s not clear from the headline what I’m talking about, let me try to clarify.

Check out the photos below of my Tesla Model 3 touchscreen. You can see in the Autopilot visualizations on the left side of the screen that different types of vehicles show up with different shapes. However, they are generic vehicle bodies, not any clear brand or model.

You can also see that my car is shown to be a white Tesla Model 3.

What some owners have been asking for is that other Tesla vehicles on the road show up in a similar way, if possible.

Well, apparently, not only is it possible but it’s soon going to be coming to our cars via an over-the-air software update.

What practical purpose does this serve? None. But many of us think it will be fun and interesting to see other Teslas on our touchscreens like this. Elon pointed out in his tweet that we could play “a fun punch buggy sort of game.” And who didn’t love playing punch buggy as a kid?

Some people consider goofing off and having fun to be a minor thing, not an important part of a major, expensive product that serves big utilitarian purposes. I disagree. Goofing off and having fun is a big part of my life, because it’s enjoyable. One of the greatest things about Tesla vehicles — and I say this with complete seriousness and a straight face — is that it offers many ways to have fun and includes so many cute little features that can lighten your day, or at least a moment in your day.

Is this new visualization going to be one of the most important reasons to buy a Tesla car? Of course not. But it’s going to be one more thing that makes a Tesla cool and makes the car feel special and fun. It’s hard to quantify that, or even explain it.

Life should be enjoyed, and we should try to go through it with a light heart. Little things that remind us to do that should be appreciated.

Also, side note: some people believe the meaning of life is 42. I personally do not, but I do find it fascinating what I discovered in the screenshot above:

Coincidence???? I think not!!

But that’s a topic for another day.
