A technology firm with expertise in the water and environmental sphere, Tricel completed a commercial sewage treatment plant installation for a holiday campsite in Skegness, Lincolnshire in April 2021. Here, the firm outlines what was involved.

The parties
Blockfree Services operates in Lincolnshire and the surrounding areas and provides wastewater treatment solutions. Its offering incorporates a full range of drainage and off-mains services including septic-tank emptying, drain jetting, CCTV surveys, repairs and the installation of sewage treatment plants and septic tanks. Lincs Loos (part of the same group) provides portable toilet hire to both construction and event industries as well as luxury toilet block, shower block and welfare unit hire.

The challenge
In April, the caravan park decided to renovate its site to get summer-ready, anticipating the ongoing preeminence of the staycation. The property has an area of 118 PE (390 m2), including the campsite, a restaurant and the owner’s accommodation.

Tricel says the Novo wastewater treatment plants are reliable, easy to install and simple to maintain.

They installed new toilet and shower blocks, and upgraded several sports pitches to provide mains water, electricity and drainage at each pitch. The site had been running on an old septic tank with a soakaway that was no longer up to the job. The firm was unfamiliar with industry norms and the latest technology when it came to drainage, and sought a partner they could trust. Blockfree Services was recommended by another contractor involved in the renovation, who cited the company’s reputation and high standards.

The sheer size of the site itself presented a challenge, as did the fact of the drains’ being combined. They had to break the runs apart to ensure that all the waste was spread across the different plants. In the end, Blockfree Services arrived at a unique system that fulfils the campsite’s needs.

Developing a solution
The property has a capacity of 118 PE. It includes the campsite in itself, but also a restaurant and the owner’s accommodation. Blockfree Services had to design a system to fulfil the entire site’s needs. The solution they came up with comprises two Tricel Novo UK50PE treatment plants and one Tricel Novo UK18 tank. They also installed pump chambers to bring all greywater from the serviced pitches to the treatment plant area. They chose the Tricel range of products for their high quality, low maintenance, reliability and the fact that they are backed by Tricel’s first class service. They also provided two sealed Elsan Waste disposal points to comply with regulations, and constructed brick and concrete disposal points.

The final result
A verdict on Blockfree services’ expert workmanship is that the caravan park owners have enlisted the firm to care of all routine maintenance and services in the future.

Area sales manager Stuart Goulding commented: “We work in a great partnership with the team at Blockfree Services – we do regular domestic installs together… Top job!”
