New role aims to bring federal funding and programs to Washington

Sarah Vorpahl, a key member of the CETA team, has been promoted to a new position. In her new role, she will lead the Washington State Energy Office’s efforts to secure federal funding for clean energy projects and programs in Washington.

Throughout the past three years, Sarah has led the rulemaking and implementation of the low-income and equity work under CETA. She’s worked on legislation and rules to enact the first-in-the-nation grid-interactive water heater standard and helped restructure energy grant programs to emphasize equity and inclusion.

Congratulations to Sarah, and many thanks for her work to advance the equity and low-income provisions of CETA.

If you have questions about Commerce’s equity and low-income work under CETA, please direct them to Austin Scharff at ceta@commerce.wa.gov

Commerce announces energy assistance technical advisory group

Commerce is forming a technical advisory group to provide leadership and guidance in the implementation of RCW 19.405.120. This includes providing input on data collection, aggregation and analysis policy evaluation under the statute.

Advisory group members will be asked to attend biweekly meetings in the spring and early summer in order for Commerce to submit a biennial report on energy assistance to the Legislature by Jan. 1, 2023. Advisory group meetings will be held less frequently in the summer and fall.

Public meetings will be convened over the course of the summer to gather input from non-members. Commerce intends for the technical advisory group to be small to encourage interactive conversations and problem solving on technical issues. Members of the 2020 Data TAG will receive an invitation to participate.

If you have reviewed the draft advisory group charter and are interested in being part of the advisory group, please email ceta@commerce.wa.gov. If you do not wish to be a member or are not selected, there will be plenty of opportunities to participate in public meetings.

The program timeline is posted on the Energy Assistance webpage.
