Governor Jay Inslee Praises Clean Energy Innovations at 2019 Energy Leadership Summit

Governor Jay Inslee gave a keynote speech at the Energy Leadership Summit highlighting the successes of the Clean Energy Fund, which has invested more than $150 million in clean energy and technology R&D and deployment across the state. Governor Inslee also declared Dan Schwartz the “Washingtonian of the Day.” Schwartz is the director of the University of Washington’s Clean Energy Institute, which supports the advancement of next-generation solar energy and battery materials and devices, as well as their integration with systems and the grid. Schwartz also serves on the Executive Committee of the CleanTech Alliance.

The 2019 Energy Leadership Summit is presented jointly by the CleanTech Alliance and the Northwest Environmental Business Council. This unique event connects policy with practice and addresses the industry’s current challenges and future opportunities.

The event featured nine breakout panel discussions and keynotes discussing deep decarbonization pathways for the Northwest, as well as Seattle City Light’s plans for transformation and decarbonization. The summit held a debate regarding the calls for the removal of the four lower Snake River Dams which was praised for its civility and insight. Additionally, the Energy Leadership Achievement award ceremony took place with Bonnie Frye Hemphill, policy and partnerships director at A&R Solar winning the individual award, and the Washington State Department of Commerce winning the group award for the Clean Energy Fund.

Additionally, CleanTech Alliance President Tom Ranken was presented with the Chairman’s Award for his service.  In his presentation, Board Chair Craig Husa also announced Ranken’s departure from the role in early 2020.
