SAN FRANCISCO, CA – (April 6, 2021) –Celebrating ten years of furthering the roles of professionals within the green economy, Women in Cleantech & Sustainability (WCS), today announced a new scholarship program to help reduce the diversity gap in the cleantech and sustainability sectors. The program offers ten annual chapter memberships to individuals who would not otherwise be able to financially prioritize the WCS membership. The resulting memberships will provide free access to all WCS virtual learning, networking, and career development events to the recipients.

“We know people aspire to careers where they see others like them thriving. In the past ten years we’ve watched companies within climate tech diversifying the gender mix of their teams, but racial diversity still lags for underserved groups such as Blacks, Indigenous, People of Color,” said WCS founder and Chairwoman, Lisa Ann Pinkerton, who is also the founder and CEO of Technica Communications. “We hope to lead by example by deliberately and consciously expanding our community to these groups and leveraging our influence to help grow, serve, and lift them up. This scholarship program is one active way we are making our  goals a reality.”

Each scholarship covers the annual WCS chapter membership fee. Applications will be taken until May 1, 2021 for the initial cohort. Eligible applicants will gain access to various benefits including a WCS chapter membership valued at $147/year, access to the WCS Mentorship Program application, access to all WCS Virtual Events at no charge and  access to a network and community of women in diverse fields of work. These benefits lay the foundation for continuous growth and professional development in climate tech and the green economy for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and other underserved groups. WCS hopes they will discover rich learning experiences that positively shape their story and inspire others. Corporations and other interested parties are invited to sponsor the program.
