Extreme E, the rough-and-tumble racing series that brings all-electric rally racing to some of the most remote spots on the planet, has announced Enel X as its official Smart Charging Partner. Enel X will provide its JuicePump 40 Race Edition charging station to charge the championship’s ODYSSEY 21 electric SUVs.

Enel X, a subsidiary of the Enel Group, manages infrastructure services such as demand response at a global level—the company boasts around 100 MW of storage capacity installed worldwide, as well as 195,000 EV charging points. Enel X is involved in the motorsport sector to develop and test advanced technologies, and aims to make motorsport more sustainable.

This fits right in with the mission of Extreme E, “a sport for purpose” that aims to highlight the impact of climate change in the world’s most sensitive ecosystems, while promoting the adoption of EVs as well as gender equality—each racing team consists of a male and a female driver.

The next stop on Extreme E’s five-event calendar is the Arctic X Prix in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, which will take place on August 28-29. As nine teams race head-to-head on the ice, the event will highlight the devastating effects global warming is having on the Greenland ice sheet.
