Recent Deals – 14 September

Agriculture & Food 

Fieldin, developer of smart farming software for specialty crop farmers, raised $30 million in a Series B funding round from Fortissimo Capital, Zeev Ventures, ICON Accelerator, Maor Investments and Akkadian Ventures. Fieldin monitors and collects real-time data using sensors to derive actionable insights on spraying, harvesting and general maintenance of the farm. This round of funding will go towards expanding the team of engineers in Israel and increase sales in the United States and Australia.  

Energy & Power 

LeydenJar Technologies, developer of pure silicon anodes that enable production of high-density Li-ion batteries, secured $26 million in a Series B round. BOM, DOEN, Catalus Capital, YARD Energy, Invest-NL, ING Sustainable Investments and Somerset Capital Partners invested in this round. The company reports increase in energy density of up to 70%. Funds will drive scale-up of LeydenJar’s production facility in Eindhoven and further development in increasing the lifetime of its batteries. The company also aims to increase its workforce.  

Materials & Chemicals 

Echion Technologies, developer of battery anode materials to enable ultrafast charging for electric vehicles, raised $13.8 million from CBMM, University of Cambridge, Origin Capital, BGF and other undisclosed investors. The company offers niobium-based anodes that reportedly reduce total cost of ownership for varied applications. The Series A round will go towards scaling-up production, R&D and strengthen operations.  

Resources & Environment 

CleanRobotics, developer of smart trashcans with autonomous sorting and data collection capabilities, disclosed a $5.6 million Series A round through regulatory filings. The company has built a smart robotic system that uses artificial intelligence to detect and divert recycling, landfill and compost waste. The system also collects waste data in an effort to educate and improve recycling habits. 

Transportation & Logistics 

Gatik AI, developer of autonomous vehicles for short-haul and last-mile logistics, raised $85 million in a Series B funding round led by Koch Disruptive Technologies. Other investors include Innovation Endeavors, Wittington Ventures, FM Capital, Dynamo Ventures, Trucks Venture Capital and Intact Ventures. Gatik aims to launch commercial autonomous delivery vehicles by 2023 and increase its existing fleet from 20 to 100 by the end of the year.
