Mercedes unveils new EQS electric luxury sedan

After months of teasers, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled full details of its upcoming EQS electric luxury sedan, the latest of several models from Mercedes’s EQ electric sub-brand.

There will be two battery pack options: 107.8 kWh usable (12 modules) and 90 kWh usable (10 modules). The cells are in either pouch or hard-case/prismatic format, and are based on an NCM 811 chemistry. The pack runs on a 400-volt architecture.

Range will be up to 770 km (478 miles) on the WLTP cycle.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS will be equipped with a 22 kW on-board charger, and will support DC fast charging at up to 200 kW. The Plug and Charge system, which allows charging with no need for a card or app, will be supported.

The EQS will initially be available in two trim levels: the EQS 450+ and the EQS 580 4MATIC. Both versions use permanently excited synchronous motors.

The EQS 450+ has a single rear motor with 245 kW of power and 568 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is 6.2 seconds.

The EQS 580 4MATIC is an all-wheel-drive version with 385 kW and 855 Nm. It hits 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is to go on sale in the US this fall. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but it’s expected to be over $100,000.
