Nidec launches 50 kW and 200 kW motor systems for EVs

Nidec has launched two new models of traction motor systems: a 200 kW model for the D and E segments and a 50 kW model for the A segment. Both models are based on Nidec’s 150 kW E-Axle.

Targeting luxury EVs for the European and Chinese markets, the 200 kW model features a motor and gears that increase the power of the system by more than 30 percent. The total weight, 95 kg (209.5 lbs), is only 9 percent higher than that of the 87 kg, 150 kW model.

The 50 kW model targets Japanese kei cars and other microcars. It has a coaxial design and reduced size (540 mm wide, 300 mm high, and 330 mm deep).

Mass production is slated for 2023 for the 200 kW model and 2022 for the 50 kW model.
