Eco tech firm Pawprint has launched a second crowdfund and announced that global investment company Standard Life Aberdeen is the latest business to become a “Pawprint Pioneer”, a programme that aims to support firms in maintaining a leadership position in the fight against climate change. Hosted by Crowdcube, the business is seeking £400K to be used in scaling its business offering. Firms already engaged with the programme include multinational brewery and pub chain BrewDog.

Founded by entrepreneur and Lingo24 founder Christian Arno, Pawprint “brings technology, behavioural science and carbon data together in one easy to use platform”. The company says its mission is “to empower people to measure, understand and reduce their carbon footprints at home, at work and beyond”. Backed by the scientific expertise of a leading expert in carbon data, Mike Berners-Lee, Pawprint describes itself as “the first eco companion tool that encompasses all aspects of life – home, work and beyond”.

Sandy MacDonald, Global Head of Sustainability at Standard Life Aberdeen, said: “The Pawprint app will not only enable our people to understand and tackle their own carbon footprint, but also allow us to better understand the impact on emissions of our employees working from home. We will then be able to offset this as part of our carbon neutral commitment and further work with our people to reduce it. Standard Life Aberdeen is committed to help fight climate change and we can’t wait to get started on this project.”

Founded in 2019 Pawprint says it has seen demand for its online tool ramp up during 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic has shone a spotlight on the need for urgent climate action, including the Government’s pledge to build back better and build back greener.

The Pawprint Pioneers Program aims to attract “the most eco conscious businesses from all industries and sectors as early adopters of Pawprint for Business who can help shape the product to ensure a lower carbon future for their employees and business”. This latest crowdfund will help finance the ongoing development of the new Business product.

The business has, to date, raised over £1 million from angel investors – including early backers of Tesla, Amazon and Spotify and a successful 300% overfunded crowdfund in May 2020. The free Pawprint consumer product, launched earlier this year, has attracted 2.5k registrations and has 4k unique monthly visitors.

Christian Arno, founder and Pawprint CEO said; “We couldn’t be more excited to have Standard Life Aberdeen come onboard and having an investment company of their size and stature sign up to use Pawprint for Business in the same week that we launch our crowdfund feels like a good omen!”

“Our first two Pawprint for Business users, Standard Life Aberdeen and BrewDog are very different businesses but one thing they have in common is that they are both committed to taking the lead on tackling climate change and recognise the value in engaging their employees on sustainability.”
