10 Countries With 5–10% Plugin Vehicle Market Share
A few days ago, I wrote an article about the top countries in terms of plugin vehicle market share. In response to that article, one reader, “No way” (I have a feeling that’s not his/her real name), requested a graph and article on countries aspiring to 10% plugin vehicle market share.
I thought that sounded like a fun idea since, as No way pointed out, European EV market share has jumped this year and several European countries are now in that category: “Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Switzerland, UK and Liechtenstein.” Additionally, it shouldn’t be long before they are saying goodbye to 10% and setting their sights higher. “In 2021 most if not all of them will be above 10%….” That is an exciting point worth highlighting. Historically, those top markets mentioned at the top have seen their plugin market share rise past 10% quickly once in the 5–10% range.
So, let’s see if No way got the list of countries right, and how these countries’ EV market growth looks in graph and chart form.

So, yes, No way‘s list of countries between 5% and 10% plugin-vehicle market was right on the money.
Note that China is just barely below 5% plugin-vehicle market share so far this year, at 4.7% at the end of June. The United States? Don’t ask.

We’ll see which of the 10 countries currently sitting between 5% and 10% plugin-vehicle market share can climb above 10% market share by the end of 2020. Any guesses?
