Dairy farm installation overcomes traditional separator limitations, says firm

The BioSelect installation “sends gas yields up, yet reduces maintenance costs”, said UK managing director David Brown.

Pumps and water technology expert Börger has recently completed the installation of one its separators at a dairy farm/biogas plant in Gloucestershire.

As many farmers have discovered, a traditional farm separator can have its limitations with feedstock for renewable energy – and this was no exception. The BioSelect Separator replaces an old unit that required more and more intervention with resealing, replacement shafts and gearboxes. The new Borger Separator is also seemingly “producing a digestate so good that it has substantially reduced fertiliser bills”.

At the front end of the AD/biogas operation, the dairy farm invested in a fully automated Börger Powerfeed, which the firm said provides highly efficient solids feeding and mixing technology with 15 cubic metres of storage capacity.

In addition, said Börger, a small fleet of Börger pumps helps keep the AD operation consistent and easy to manage.

David Brown, Börger UK’s Managing Director, said: “This BioSelect installation is an excellent example of why this very well engineered Separator is proving so popular with farmers. It sends gas yields up, yet reduces maintenance costs – with the bonus of producing a digestate that greatly enhances soil. On top of this, our mixing and pumping technology complements the range of solutions we can provide for all farm-based biogas plants”.

The firm will be on Stand 46 at the Energy and Rural Business Show’s Energy Now Expo.
